Glimmer

Glimmer was photographed from above, as a blacktip reef shark moved through shallow turquoise water.

From the air, the scene became almost abstract.

The shark was reduced to a dark, unmistakable shape beneath the surface, while the water around it was broken by soft ripples of light and movement.

What I loved about the frame was its simplicity.

There was no dramatic encounter, no rush of activity - just a single shark moving quietly through the shallows, surrounded by colour and texture.

Glimmer is a photograph about seeing a familiar animal from a different perspective, and the way even the smallest movements can transform the surface of the ocean.
