British Photography Awards 2020

Two of my images were shortlisted in the 2020 British Photography Awards. My photo of a submerged elephant lifting it's trunk out of the water to breath entitled 'Pachyderm Periscope' was shortlisted in the Land Animal Category. Taken on Nikon D3300 with Nikon 70-300mm lens in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka.

Elephant Trunk In Water

The Story:

Whilst searching for leopards I stumbled across this male elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) wallowing in a lake, completely submerged bar the tip of his trunk and one of his ears. His trunk would then disappear, only to reemerge a few minutes later, presumably when he ran out of air. This periscope motion continued for close to an hour, interrupted only by the occasional flapping of his ear to listen for the alarm calls of the Hanuman langurs.

My photo entitled 'Solitary', a shot of a lone manta ray in Dhigurah Lagoon, Maldives was shortlisted in the Drone Category. Taken on a DJI Mavic Pro with Neewer ND8 filter.

Manta Ray

The Story:

A lone reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi) takes a moment for itself after a feeding frenzy in the lagoon. Large upwellings resulted in an abundance of plankton and this was one of six mantas feeding in the area that morning.

Black and White Whale Shark Fine Art

The Story:

This adolescent whale shark (Rhincodon typus) named Huduveli, ascended from the depths to sun itself in the shallow waters of the reef before returning to the deep.

 Green Turtle Fine Art

The Story:

A green turtle (Chelonia mydas) ascends from sleeping on the reef to take a breath at the surface. After a few long breathes it returned to the reef to feed.
