Tempest

Tempest was made during a lightning storm in South Ari Atoll.

Out on the water, a traditional Maldivian dhoni sat beneath an enormous dark sky as the storm began to build around it.

Then the lightning came.

For a brief moment, the entire scene was illuminated - the small silhouette of the boat surrounded by open water beneath the scale and energy of the storm above.

That relationship between people, sea and weather is what stayed with me in this photograph.
