The Collection

Stories from the world's wild places.

Some photographs begin with an animal. Others begin with a landscape, a change in light, or the patience to stay in one place long enough for something to happen. These are photographs shaped by the places in which they were made.

Behind the Collection

The story
behind the work.

Wildlife photography is often described in terms of the animal in front of the camera. But the longer I spend in the field, the more I find myself photographing everything around it.

The dust kicked up beneath an elephant's feet. The scale of a mountain behind a herd. A leopard disappearing into grass. The silence of a landscape before an animal enters the frame.

Many of the photographs in this collection came from long periods of waiting - sometimes for an encounter, sometimes simply for the landscape, light and animal to come together for a few seconds.

Wild Places brings together photographs made across different habitats and countries, from open plains and forests to deserts and remote landscapes. They are as much about the places themselves as the wildlife that lives within them.
