Shadow Of The Mountain

Shadow of the Mountain was photographed at dawn in Kenya in 2021.

As the first light began to move across the landscape, a herd of elephants gathered to feed with Mount Kilimanjaro rising behind them.

It was one of those scenes where the wider landscape felt just as important as the wildlife within it.

Elephants are animals we often think of in terms of their enormous scale. But beneath Kilimanjaro, even they seemed small - scattered across the plains beneath a mountain that dominated the horizon.

The softness of the morning light made the moment feel almost timeless.

Shadow of the Mountain is a photograph about scale, place and perspective - a herd of giants moving through a landscape that somehow makes even them feel small.
