Eager Anticipation

Eager Anticipation was photographed in Kenya in 2021.

Giraffes can often appear incredibly composed - tall, elegant and almost statuesque as they move through the landscape.

Then, every so often, they do something that completely changes the mood.

For a brief moment, this giraffe turned towards me and stuck out its tongue, creating a frame that felt far more playful than the scenes I had been watching only moments earlier.

It was one of those small, unexpected gestures that gives an animal so much personality.

Eager Anticipation is a photograph about those lighter moments in the wild - the expressions, behaviours and split-second details that make individual encounters feel completely unique.
